Jan 10 — Mt. Tabor and Bet Shean

We departed the Galilee though the Jordan Valley toward the Dead Sea.  We stopped for Mass at the Basilica of the Transfiguration, on the top of Mt. Tabor, the site of Christ’s Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1-13; Mark 9:2-13; Luke 9:28-36.) Then we traveled to Bet She’an, a Roman city that has been restored enough to see the excavations of the streets and shops as they originally were. We passed by the oasis of Jericho (Joshua 2, 6; Luke 19:1-10) and the Mount of Temptation (Matthew 4:1-11) before turning to travel through the Judean Wilderness up to JerusalemThe road is known as the Jericho Road from the story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37.) We arrived in Jerusalem to view the Holy City for our first full view from a promenade overlooking the Old City.
