Gethsemane, Mount of Olives, Church of the Ascension, Dominus Flevit Chapel, Mt. Zion, Upper Room, Church of the Dormitian, Shrine of the Book, Model of 1st Century Jerusalem ~ We began the day at the Garden of Gethsemane (Matthew 26:36) & the Church of All Nations, where we had mass. From the top of the Mount of Olives, we saw a beautiful overview of the City of Jerusalem. We visited the Church of the Ascension which marks the holy site from which Jesus ascended to heaven (Luke 24:50-53; Acts 1:9-12.) We walked down the western slope of the Mount of Olives to the Dominus Flevit Chapel, where Jeff ave a teaching. It is the traditional site where Jesus contemplated the city of Jerusalem & its destruction (Luke 19:41, 44.) After crossing the Kidron Valley by motor coach, we went to Mt. Zion, where we visited the traditional Upper Room, revered as a site to recall the Last Supper (Mark 14:12-26) and the Church of the Dormitian, the site of St. Mary's Assumption. Later we visited the Shrine of the Book, home of the Dead Sea Scrolls and the restored Model of 1st Century Jerusalem, which is a wonderful way to understand the Old City of Jerusalem as it was in New Testament times.
