Day Two

June 15  Tuesday  ~ Nazareth, Mount Carmel, Caesarea, Sea of Galilee ~  We started our pilgrimage with a trip to Nazareth to see Mary’s home, Joseph’s workshop and celebrated Mass at Church of St. Joseph. Then we visited Nazareth Village where we experienced life in the time of Jesus.  On our way to the Mediterranean Sea, we passed Megiddo, the ancient chariot city of King Solomon that overlooks the valley of Armageddon. Then we stopped at Mount Carmel for the panoramic view of the Jezreel Valley, reminding us of the stories of Elisha and Elijah. At the site of Caesarea Maritima, Jeff spoke about the first gentile convert Cornelius who was stationed in Caesarea and watched a movie about the history of the city first built by Herod the Great. Then we cooled off with a walk through the Shuni tunnel which is part of an aqueduct system also built by Herod the Great to bring water to Caesarea. Back at the hotel the kids had a chance to swim in the lovely pool before dinner. We were joined by ten more people tonight and the remainder will arrive tomorrow. Our prayers are with them.
