Day Four

June 17  Thursday ~ Cana, Mt Tabor, Bet She’an, Gideon’s Spring, Jerusalem.   Today we started the day at Cana, where Jesus performed his first miracle turning water into wine. Several couples renewed their marriage vows. Anne and Bill Kothiemer are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Then we headed to the top of Mt Tabor for mass at the Basilica of the Transfiguration, the site of Christ’s Transfiguration. After visiting the ancient synagogue of Bet Alpha, we took a refreshing break to swim in the natural springs at “Sachne" in Gan Ha-Shlosha National Park.  As we traveled down the Jordan Valley, we viewed from the bus the huge site of Bet She’an, a Roman city that has been partially restored. It was too hot to tour the site in the 100 degree heat! We then continued south, passing the oasis of Jericho and the Mount of Temptation before turning to travel up through the Judean Wilderness to Jerusalem.  With excitement we took our first look at the Holy City of Jerusalem and then partook in a traditional blessing ceremony.
