June 18 Friday ~ St Peter in Gallicantu, Caiaphas’ home, Upper Room, Jewish Quarter, Western Wall, Bethlehem ~ This morning began with mass at the church that recalls Peter’s denial on the night Jesus was betrayed, St. Peter in Gallicantu. It is also a site identified as the High Priest Caiaphas’ home where Jesus was held that same night. The church is built over a prison cell. Then we headed to Mt Zion to view King David’s Tomb and the Upper Room, revered as the site of the Last Supper. Returning to the Old City Jewish Quarter, we enjoyed the unique presentation at the Burnt House, about the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans. It is part of the exciting discoveries that were only possible after the Reunification of Jerusalem just over 40 years ago. Next we stopped at the Western Wall, to spend a moment in prayer and add our petition to the wall. For the afternoon we drove into Bethlehem to do some shopping and to visit the Church of the Nativity, St. Catherines, and St. Jerome's cave. After dinner one of our guide gave a talk about the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
