Dominican Sister of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist on Oprah!

Dear Friends of the Dominican Sisters of Mary,

In this age of instant communications, word travels fast, so you may have already heard the news: we will be appearing on the Oprah Winfrey Show on Tuesday, February 9, which also happens to be the 13th anniversary of the founding of our Community. Oprah was interested in doing a show on religious life as a hidden way of life which many people never experience, and so her producers asked us if we would be willing to welcome them. We accepted this invitation as an opportunity to share our life, and by extension, the Gospel, with an audience that we might not ever reach otherwise.

A camera crew came to the Motherhouse in Ann Arbor at the beginning of this week, and then on Thursday, Sr. Mary Samuel, Sr. John Dominic, Sr. Mary Judith, and Sr. Francis Mary were flown to Chicago for the taping. Some of our Novices and Postulants also participated in the taping from the Motherhouse via “Skype.”

Jeff Walks on Water!

In Minnesota it's not unusual to walk on water. Most of us learned how at a young age. It's a reminder that Jesus asked Peter to "get out of the boat" in order to know that Jesus was the Christ. Trust him today and do something great for the Kingdom of God, even if it's as seemingly small a thing as forgiving your friend or tending to the needs of the poor.

Fr. Rick Frechette in Haiti - Please Help Him!

While this video was taken before the earthquake in Haiti, it gives you a good idea of the quality of work that Fr. Rick Frechette is doing. I know Fr. Rick personally as he and ten of his lovely Haitian mission workers went to Israel with Emily and me last year. My prayer is that we could all follow Fr. Rick's example of Christlike love. If you give your money will go 100% to help the Haitians. Take a look www.olbsus.com.

Haitian Earthquake Relief

We are sure that you all are aware of the devastation that occurred in Haiti after they were hit with a 7.0 earthquake. Last January we had the privilege of traveling to the Holy Land with Fr. Rick Frechette as one of the priests. He is a medical doctor and he and his staff work at St. Damien hospital which was severely damaged in the quake.

Please check out this newly created site www.olbsus.com to see how you can help Fr. Rick.

Here is a photo of Fr. Rick last January sharing with the pilgrims about his outreach in Haiti.
